Craft beer Palermo: it’s not the easiest thing to find here. This is wine and cocktail country, and most bars will happily pour you a spritz before they can tell you what’s on tap. But Sicily has a small, fiercely local craft brewing scene, built on ingredients you won’t find in a beer anywhere else: mountain herbs, ancient grains, citrus, even mineral salt from a mine that’s six million years old. If you’re chasing real craft beer Palermo style, with a story behind every bottle, here’s where to find it in the city, and how to bring it back to wherever you’re staying for a proper tasting.
Why Sicilian craft beer is worth seeking out
If you’re used to the beer culture of Belgium, Germany, the UK, or Scandinavia, Sicily can feel like a beer desert at first glance: menus built entirely around wine, spritz, and the occasional imported lager. Look a little closer, though, and there’s a small wave of Sicilian microbreweries doing something genuinely distinctive, and craft beer Palermo visitors can now seek out on purpose rather than by accident.
Most of them, Brassicula included, build each beer around a single local ingredient, often one protected by Slow Food as an official Presidio: manna resin tapped from ash trees in the Madonie mountains, apricots from Scillato, blood oranges from the Catania plain, ancient grains like Timilia and Perciasacchi. It’s a different logic from the big industrial lagers you’ll find in most bars here, and it means every bottle tastes distinctly of somewhere: a specific hillside, harvest, or family recipe.
A glass of Sicilian craft beer is, in a way, a taste of the island’s countryside rather than its coastline.

Craft Beer Palermo: Where to Drink It
Divino in Birra — Via Alessandro La Marmora 70
The most dedicated address on this list. Divino in Birra is a small wine-and-beer bar in the Libertà area with a genuine focus on Sicilian craft beer alongside natural wines, plus a well-loved “aperifish” menu of seafood small plates. It’s the closest thing Palermo has to a proper craft beer bar, and a good first stop if you want to taste widely before deciding what to bring home.
Madonieat — Via Butera 20, near Porta Felice
Tucked into the entrance of Palazzo Butera in the Kalsa district, Madonieat is a bistrot and shop built entirely around the products of the Madonie mountains: cheeses, cured meats, jams, olive oil, and a small, well-chosen selection of Sicilian craft beers. It’s less a bar than a place to taste and shop at once, which makes it a good stop if you’re curious about the ingredients behind the beer, not only the beer itself.
Ozio Gastronomico — Via Di Blasi 2, Politeama
Not a beer bar, but worth knowing about: Ozio Gastronomico is widely considered one of Palermo’s best Neapolitan-style pizzerias, and a great place to pair a good beer with a great meal later in the evening.
No taproom? We bring the tasting to you
Brassicula doesn’t have a taproom in Palermo. We’re a small brewery, not a bar. But if you’re staying in a vacation rental and want to run your own tasting for an aperitivo with friends, we can bring six bottles straight to your door, hand-delivered, the same day, anywhere in Palermo.
What’s in the box
The Tasting Box is six 33cl bottles, chosen from our full range: a Weiss made with Madonie manna, a Red Ale with blood orange, a Lager with ancient Sicilian grains, a Golden Ale with rock salt from a Madonie mine, an IPA with tabacchiera peach, and a Wheat Ale with manna and apricot. You can pick your own six, or simply tell us what you like and let us put together a mix. Each box comes with a tasting card for every beer, so you can talk your way through the flight like you would at a proper tasting.
